What Goes Into a Pool Project
The pool is only part of the build. Decking, coping, fencing, grading, and the landscaping that puts the yard back together are all part of the real project, which is why a quote that prices only the shell looks deceptively low.
Fibreglass shells arrive pre-formed, so installation is faster and lifetime maintenance is lower. Concrete and gunite are fully custom in shape, depth, and finish, and take longer to build. Our inground pool cost guide walks through the whole picture.
Permits and Pool Enclosure Rules
Every municipality here requires a pool enclosure permit before a pool goes in, and the requirements are enforced. Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, and Milton each publish their own bylaw, so the enclosure has to be designed to the right one.
- A pool enclosure permit, in place before installation begins
- Fence height, gate self-latching, and self-closing hardware to your city's bylaw
- A separate electrical permit, with the work done by a licensed electrician
- A building permit for any surrounding structure, depending on size
We handle the drawings and applications through our drawings and permits service so it runs alongside the build rather than delaying it.

When to Book a Pool Build
The easiest time to book is the opposite of when everyone calls. Enquiries spike in May, by which point the season's schedule is largely committed, and the people phoning then are usually swimming the following year rather than that summer.
Booking in late summer, fall, or over winter gets a better position in the schedule and a pool finished for the start of a season instead of the end of it. Excavation can run into late fall here, with the surrounding hardscape and planting carrying into spring. Planning a pool as a two-season project is usually what makes the timeline work.
